Short Visit to Köln
Posted in Munich, for the morning of June 12:
The bozs (I've got to be careful! The z and y are fip-flopped on
German kezboards, I mean keyboards!) had to be pried out of bed with a forklift, but Brad loved the German breakfast. Cold cuts and soft-boiled eggs for him when we get home! We took a 10:00 train from Dusseldorf down to Köln (Cologne), and on coming out of the Hauptbahnhof, got our eyes popped out by the Dom (Cologne Cathedral), just across the square. The towers are huge, 157m (515 ft) high, with a bell hanging in it's carillon that weighs 24 tons.
We had lunch first, then climbed the tower ("Oh, too much Kölsch!" said Marilyn), and loved the view of the surrounding countryside. Traded taking pictures with a Brit and a Brazilian, and wished them both viel gluck. The nave was amazing, beautiful stained glass and soaring arches. Brad said, "I wish we could go to services here, Dad."
