Off to Munchen (Update)

The kids were great, hit the showers at 7:00, and a quick breakfast. We changed trains in Köln, and passed through Stuttgart and across the Europa Wasserscheibe (European Waterdivide) where the Danube, flowing eventually into the Mediterranean, takes over from the Rhine. A businessman returning home to Ulm advised us to watch for the Munster, Ulm's huge cathedral, with the tallest cathedral spire in the world.

We pulled into Munich (exactly on time at 2:28), and took the S-bahn and bus out to the hotel. The young guy at the front desk was really helpful, and drove us back to the S-bahn in the shuttle van.

We connected S-bahn and U-bahn out to the Olympiapark, where Munich has set up a big World Cup fan fest. Each of the host cities has one of these sites, with smaller versions hundreds of other towns, with big video walls in an open area for fans to gather. The game between France and Switzerland was a slow one, but the Brazilian fans were everywhere, getting ready for their match that night. The kids finally wore down after the first half, and we headed back in to the Marienplatz to get some new shoes for Kenny. There were lots of people, lots of shops, and the Rathaus (old city hall). Marilyn reminded me again that we had already had dinner at the Olympiapark, and we finally headed back to the hotel. Brazil-Croatia on the hotel TV isnät quite as good as being in with the crowd, but it was still a much more entertaining game to watch.

We've gotten as far as Munich, and love the city. We're going to tour Dachau this morning, and then head up to the Allianz arena for Tunisia-Saudi Arabia this evening at 6:00. Post again tomorrow!

Comments:
Mind the hooligans in Munich! Oh wait, I recognize those two, they're McDonogh hooligans. Don't leave them in Dachau, they'll be missed, sorely or otherwise!

Hallo Rob,

viele Grüße aus der Schweiz.
I have a good time here. Yesterday we had talks all day. Today we will go up the mountains for a hike. Hoping to see marmots and capricorns. The weather is perfect and the mountains are gorgeous.
I hope you have a good time in Munich, don't forget to visit the Münchner Hofbräuhaus.
Bis bald,
Sonja
